Although the routine felt like it lasted merely 5 seconds, we took delight performing it while seeing everyone's amazed looks as we carried out our stunts. Nonetheless, Team B did a good job by achieving ASU on all days(YAY), despite initially struggling to get a simple liberty. Let's work on making arm motions timings sharper and more coordinated!

MAGNUM TRAINING CAMP WITH RSU DEC 2011

Two weeks straight of almost over 700 jumps and arm motions, this training camp was definitely more intense than the previous one, but despite complaining about all the aches, I'm certain we all enjoyed ourselves and greatly benefitted from it.

Especially since we had World Champion Cheerleaders joining us for camp! From RSU, Head Coach Oat, Asst Coach May, spontaneous Top Flyer(with super locking skills)Bombam, power Midtier Golf, amazing Tumbler Mai and crazy-strong Bases Ratcha, Tang and Ped gave us so much to learn from. It was such an honor to be able to see first-hand rare stunts that we can not do(YET), their standards are truly impressive.

Trying to converse with them using loosely translated sentences (discovering the inaccuracies of Google translate in the process), and quickly getting used to their terms "Chaarper(Sharper)! Fahter(Faster)!", we were able to let them guide us on our techniques. We were very grateful as they did not hesitate to give good corrections and help. It was awesome to watch them carry out advanced stunts, and almost incomprehensible how effortless they made them seem. Ohh and they all seem like really good dancers! They made us love our own dance too!

We also had fun spending time with them outside camp during the Christmas holidays, shopping at Mustafa, visiting VivoCity and gathering huge crowds by stunting in the open streets of Orchard.

Good job to those members who achieved new stunts through the camp, as well as those who didn't, persevere, because at least you survived camp ! Hahaha. I think we could see great improvements in our own techniques since we've worked on our basics. Basics are really important. Let's not rush to get advanced stunts and forget all that we've initially learned when we stepped onto these mats. I personally feel that we still have to work on increasing our body awareness so that we our bodies would be able to carry out stunts more efficiently.

AGM
Congratulations to those who made it into the committee. Its probably gonna be a different(and busier) journey, but we're in it together so let's support and help one another. A reminder that we are here not just to lead the team, but to serve it. As for the rest of the team, please be patient with us as we learn to step up to our roles, and esp the the ex-comm, do guide us to be a better committee.

As a team, I'm sure we all want the best for us, so let's work hard individually and simultaneously cohesively with a common goal in mind. Towards nationals (:

Hello magnies !
As you all know, we did not have an official AGM this year. so first of all, i want to congrats the new committee and at the same time thanks the committee of 2010/11 for always being there helping and bringing magnum to a higher level.
This is probably the last post you all gonna read from me :)
So, as the 10/11 publicist, I'd like to thank all of you for being supportive.

I had a great time working with the committee.

Hello Magnum Fresies! Captain here giving you very important information! It's for the benefit for your future in magnum! So please read EVERYTHING okay! (:

Firstly, during debrief I always emphasized on how gymming is so important for Cheerleading! Strength (from the gym) plus techniques (from trainings) makes wonders! We must tackle on both, neither one can be left undone. So firstly I will teach you all briefly on how to gym for cheerleading! (:

For GUYS you have to emphasize on training your wrist, shoulders, triceps, core, and legs. A few gym exercises that I can recommend are: Arnold Press, Shoulder Press, Dead Lifts, Squats, Upward Row, Triceps dips, leg lifts and all kinds of abs exercises, etc etc.

For GIRLS, almost the same as the guys, emphasized on training your wrist, shoulders, triceps, biceps, core and legs. A few gym exercises that I can recommend are: Arnold Press, Shoulder Press, Dead Lifts, Squats, Upward Row, Triceps dips, Biceps curl, leg lifts and all kinds of abs exercises, etc etc. Also you must RUN FREQUENTLY and CONTROL YOUR DIET to cut down on your weight, but at the same time gaining muscle mass.

For PEOPLE who have NO TIME FOR GYM, some home exercises you all can do are push ups, sit ups, handstands (PLS ONLY DO AFTER WE HAVE TAUGHT YOU), leg raises, squats, straddle lifts, etc etc.

If you don't understand the terms, it's best you ask the gym instructor on how to execute the exercises, or if possible you can always meet up with seniors for gymming sessions!

But one thing that is very important: to make your gymming 'journey' PROGRESSIVE. There is no point in staying at the same weights for a few months without improving. It will eventually be a waste a your precious time. Remember to push yourself! You can do it one! A human body can work wonders! You will be surprised! JIAYOUS! :D

ALSO, very importantly, PLEASE STRETCH FOR BOTH GUYS AND GIRLS! It is easier to stretch (not as painful) when you are warmed-up. Flexibility have a lot of benefits such as to loosen your muscles and also to prevent yourself from getting injured easily. Girls need flexibility for stunts elements next time and guys need it for a nice toetouch and pike! VERY IMPORTANT SO PLEASE STRETCH EVERYDAY!

BONDING CAMP DAY ONE :)

an update on bonding camp ! yeaaa haha took quite a while though cause had a hard time uploading the photos hahaa...

anyway some photos to do the talking :)

at the start of the camp , we had some bonding games.hope everyone did enjoy all the games haha! though there were some gross punishment but its okay as long as everyone enjoy it ! :)

after which , we all had lunch together ! how loving :D

and... we had night walk! to be honest , all the 'ghost' 's makeup were horribly scary ! hahhahaha

some of the scared face hahaa...

this pretty much sum up day one ! it was rather tiring but i guess all of us had fun !

MAGNUM FORCE BONDING CAMP 2011

this marks the end of bonding camp 2011 ! i am glad to see the juniors and seniors being so much bonded after this camp. :D

organizing this camp isnt easy. With the help of the committee , subcom , coaches, graham, evan, mabel and also having the rest of the seniors and juniors being present at the bonding camp, make this camp a FUN & SUCCESSFUL one :)

Finally! Fun camp is over! Really hope everyone had enjoyed this camp. Excos put in a lot of hardwork in making this happen hor! esp Zhongjie, the mastermind/organiser/helper/logi of this camp. So even if it's not VERY VERY FUN also must say very very fun okay! But I bet all of you confirm had enjoyed it alot right. not possible not fun ma? If not it won't be call a fun camp anymore right! :D
It's gonna be so memorable, esp for Evan, Eugene and Mabel. YOU WILL BE MISSED! ):

Fantasize about it. Dream of it. Let it be in your head. Simulate it when you are free. After that try it on the mats. Those who haven't try this method out yet, no harm trying. It seriously helps a lot :D

Hohoho! Hi magnies! 3rd post from your dear captain! I think I am more efficient than the publicist pls! tsk! HAHA anyway hows the imba PT for the past 2 trainings? still loving it? NO YOU ALL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LOVE IT! :D Don't hate me kay? Cause I am one of the mastermind for the torturing PT you all are having now. WAHAHAHAH!

Wells initially it will be tough. In fact very very tough if you put in 100% for all the PTs, but by the time school reopens and freshies come in, this will be so NO KICK to you all and WE can haolian to them what we've got! This won't be a waste! For the sake of the future of Magnum, JIAYOUS!

I bet your body is suffering badly from the past 2 trainings. If you aint, YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY SLACKING! Either that or you are too zai alr. My PT is useless to you.

Tips to recovery:

1) MOST IMPORTANTLY, drinks lots lots of water and have plenty of rest. This beats any supplements you can find.

2) Have a high intake of protein. This might not be just coming from protein powder (In fact I don really like protein powder opppps!), but from normal food like chicken breast meat, red meat, tuna etc which can give you so much protein to recover your aching body.

Do include all these in your meal, (ESP THE GIRLS!) as bread and butter cant help in recovery of your muscles. Without the necessary nutrient for your body, your muscles wont grow, and all your effort will be wasted!

3) Do stretch all your muscles to relieve the tension of the muscles. If you don't stretch, your muscles will become 'bad and stiff' muscles which is very very bad! Very ugly one, so better stretch!

Like I said, you won't grow big from all these PTs. You will just get stronger and toner and sexier! You still have to do it anyway. Why not love them right?!

And it's your captain here again! blogging how fun! LOL. Anyway serious stuff, training resumes this coming wed, 30/3/11. Time to get back to basics, since basics is the root of all stunts. I am sure after the hardcore 2 weeks training, the improvement might not be obvious. Thats because that time your body aint recovered from all the aches and injuries. After one whole week of rest, you will be surprised how much you had improved.

But don't say I never warn you all. Since we had set our goals, we need to work hard on it. If you have the correct mentality for training, you will survive through and be super duper zai. However if your training attitude is wrong in the first place, don't blame others for yourself being punished. And soon, all the weak-minded people will leave, left with the strong (in terms of body and mind) people defending the title. The reality is harsh, it's the survival of the fittest, but fear not. Like i said before, you wont be going through this alone.

Let the smiles and cheer face guide us through this journey.

Strength VS Size?

Hello magnum! Your very very first blogpost (literally!) from your dear captain! :D After so much hardwork for the past year, when everyone started from nothing to be so much now. Finally the nationals is over, and everything seems to be back to where we started off from once again. To the year1s going to yr2s, time to work extra freaking hard to welcome the coming freshies. You definitely will want to impress the freshies and even outsiders what you had got in you. To the yr2s going yr3s, last yr you gonna be in magnum. Time to be great seniors, and show the world what you had learnt in magnum during the 2 yrs spent. Regardless of technique-wise abilities, or strength-wise, or even your body shape, all these aspects will be the factors for the rise or fall of magnum.

Why do i say so? Your technique determines the level of difficulty your routine, which comes hand in hand with your strength level. For now you should know that EVERYONE in the freaking team is so important. For a routine to be perfect, once a person among the 16men never put in 100% for the 2.30min, everything will goes wrong and definitely the routine will NEVER be perfect. Thus, EVERYONE MUST START WORKING HARD FROM NOW IF YOU WANT TO GET BACK THE LOST TITLE. I cant do this alone, Magnum force must do this together.

Well back to topic, imagine by the time the freshies come in, all our body is so freaking nice, all with 6 pacs and well define triceps and sexy legs, what will they think of magnum?

Anyway in case you didnt know, looking at japan. Why do the seniors get so much respect from the juniors? Well i wont deny its part of their culture. But what I am trying to imply, you should know by now. Skill level. Imagine, will you respect a person who is so much better than you? Nono I should put it this way. Will you respect someone whose skill level so closed to yours even though that person had trained 1 yr more than you? For the sake of the person being your senior, maybe, but definitely nothing more than that. I mean its really very sad for a junior to overtake you, if they really did, 2 things had happened. They worked very hard, and you slacked very hard too.

Well enough of all these naggy things, time to get straight to the point. Things I had noticed or heard during the 2 yrs in magnum. 'Don wanna gym la, later the arms grow big so ugly!' or 'I gym for wad, technique is more than enough' or even 'I don wan use gu lat (cow strength) to do stunts' Misconceptions! In the first place, especially for girls, GYMMING WONT MAKE YOUR ARMS BIG! go read this article:

To summarize it, basically it is trying to say that having the strength doesn't mean you must be big, and being big doesn't mean you will have the strength. Try reading the article last paragraph ' Size vs Strength' Comparing bodybuilders and powerlifters, bodybuilders might be very big and having pretty bodies, they might not be as strong as powerlifters whose body might not be as nice and big. However, there are powerlifters that possess muscularity comparable to bodybuilders. There are also bodybuilders who have equal or greater strength than powerlifters. Do not misinterpret this article to mean there is no relationship between strength and size.

Ultimately there are 2 different kinds of gyming, gym for size or gym for strength. For example the RSU cheerleaders, they don't look big but they have godlike strength. Now looking at the Braves cheerleaders, do they look very very big to you? But how can the girls get to do the same things guys in spore might not even are capable of doing? They have the strength, they got the shape, but they don have the size. If you still think that you don wanna compare with other country people, look at me. I would dare to say with my small sized body compared to other big sized guy in the gym, my strength is definitely almost on par with them. Like I said, I gym for the strength, not for the size. You can do the same thing too. Like I usually tell girls, 'even if you want to be big also cannot be big one' So please please don't give the reason of becoming big as a reason not to gym anymore! I mean I rather you say you are lazy to gym, at least that reason is still valid.

If you have the intention to improve, do read up on these things, or at least ask me on how to gym and such. Don't live in your own world anymore. Facts is still facts, no matter how much you don't want it to be.

Other than gyming, another aspect of cheerleading other than strength is flexibility. I used to think that flexibility is so useless since I won't even be on stunts doing all the elements. But many might have forgotten about jumps and gymnastics. How is it possible for the thai cheerleaders to all have 270 toetouch? All of them can do splits. Thats the reason why. For girls, why so many of you can do splits, but the toetouch still like kns? Your thighs have no strength to lift your whole legs up. Strength, thats the reason why. For gymnas, why so many still cant get the roundoff after one whole yr of training? Body awareness, thats the reason why.

All these things don come free, you have to work hard for it. And working hard doesnt mean for the last 2 weeks before SNCC 2012, it means now until 2 weeks before SNCC. Its not like lottery, you wont become rich of skills and techniques overnight. Its like farming, it takes so much effort just for that grain of rice. However though it's gonna be very very harsh, you know you wont be going through it alone. You always have Magnum Force walking this road with you, and with this distance with magnies, you know that it will be a tough yet fulfilling journey.

after 3 weeks of hiatus ! i am back to update this blog :D

as we know on the 19th & 20th of march, Magnum force competed in SINGAPORE NATIONAL CHEERLEADING COMPETITION 2011.

Congrats to the main team for clinching 2nd place in the open team high school division. Congrats also to the all-girls team for clinching 3rd place. Not forgetting the co-ed team for having ASU.

Whatever the results, Magnum will always be champions in our hearts. All members did magnum proud.

Good job to CO-ED for achieving ASU :D Its been a really tough journey for your , the fact that all of you were only able to get the whole routine up two days before competition, your manage to finish up your routine perfectly. We are really proud of you all. A sense of accomplishment :D

Good job to girls team for clinching 3rd place.Though we did not manage to defend the title, i believe we did put in all our effort and we did enjoy the process together. It makes us really united now. We will come back stronger next year.

The reporting time for camp will be 9.00am sharp at Sports Deck. Please don't be late, you guys know the consequences. Give each other a morning call if needed.

Rules and regulations

1. Code of conduct

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Please take note that training camp will be on the LAST WEEK of December, which is from 27^th-31^st December 2010! Officially our last camp of the year!

For all magnies, please take note that the indemnity form for the camp is to be handed up by this Wednesday (22^nd December)! Those without indemnity form will not be allowed to stay over in school.

Please be reminded to bring $16 per person for this camp (pay to Khai Fang by this Wednesday) and give your T-shirt size to Si Wei latest by this Wednesday. Any ordering of extra T-shirt will cost an additional of $12.
